There are few things in life that I love more than stumbling upon an epic find.

Trying out some new product, thing, or idea and...

--SURPRISE--

It completely changes you. Your life becomes better, easier, faster, sunnier, no matter how trivial. And then you like them so much, you keep going back to them. And you buy 4 of them. Cue the Julie Andrew's music.

Here are a few of my Favorite Things.. well, as of lately.

1) Old Navy Rockstar Skinny Jeans

Oh, how I love these. I never thought exposing so much of my leg could make me feel so.. liberated. They have just enough stretch that I can feel comfortable eating my beloved McDonald's Filet o Fish for lunch. And I'm kinda digging the the collection of Rainbow Bright colors.

2) Target Milena Wedge

The perfect shoe. Not a heel and not a flat. Simple enough for dressy days. Simple enough for errands. They come in simple colors. Perfect.

3) Pinky- White Nude Nail Polish

I've really re-kindled a love for polish. But as much as I'm loving it again, only my toesies are seeing the colors. My hands, however, are on a quest for the perfect pinky-white nude.

OPI's Bubble Bath has been satisfying my craving, lately.

4) Urban Outfitters Scarves

Mmmm.. a more recent find. I can't quite explain it, they're a bit grungy, a bit casual, and a bit glamorous. One of those infinity scarves can't be beat.

5) Benefit Cosmetics

Amidst the wave of mineral make-ups, buffing brushes, and "barely there looks", I think I'm the last person on the Earth that wears a full liquid foundation+pancake concealer. Everyday. There's just something about "cheerleader competition" make-up that I swoon over. Benefit is a great little line out of CA. They have some beautiful things in a kinda kitchy, retro wrap. Just playing with the samples at Sephora just gives me the willies inside.

6) Music

That sounds like most cliche-est answer ever.

But it's true.

My family has always loved music. Drewsie and I still don't think twice about calling each other just to catch up and share a couple of great songs. But in the last half year, I've taken a real nose dive back into it. Old stuff, TV jingles, radio music, dance music, and stuff I would have never even considered. It just makes me feel.. together- like I have my head on straight. Like a big gulp of water. And I like that feeling now.

You guys know I'm always reading.

On a whim, I picked up Eat Pray Love while running around Goodwill.

It was .99, so, mehh, why not read it?

It's not too bad. Alot of reading her personal thoughts on her quest for pleasure, meditation and the balance between them, while she visits some suh-weet countries.

A bit hokie in some parts, but I can relate as I want to be a better me, too.

In the middle of a particularly heavy section of Yoga poses and Ommmmm's, I found a fan-tab-ulous little passage that I've been thinking and praying about. It just really spoke to me. It's just the right amount for a long run on the treadmill.

"Destiny, I feel, is also a relationship- a play between divine grace and willfull self-effort. Half of it you have no control over, half of it is absolutely in your hands, and your actions will show measurable consequence. Man is neither entirely a puppet of the gods, nor is he entirely the captain of his own destiny; he's a little of both. We gallop through our lives like circus performers balancing on two speeding side-by-side horses-one foot is on the horse called "fate", the other on the horse called "free will". And the question you have to ask every day is - which horse is which? Which horse do I need to stop worrying about because it's not under my control, and which do I need to steer with concentrated effort?

There is so much about my fate that I cannot control, but other things do fall under my jurisdiciton. There are certain lottery tickets I can buy, thereby increasing my odds of finding contentment. I can choose my words and the tone of my voice in which I speak to others. And most of all, I can choose my thoughts."

Everyone has hard times, but I am learning to be able to choose the high road. Be the better person. Choose the right attitude. And then as a reward, choose the right pair of on-sale shoes.

Happy Weekend, friends.

Because of Parent-Teacher Conferences and President's Day, I'm the proud owner of a 4-day weekend. Yabba Dabba Doo!

Yesterday was spent being HIGHLY productive with the most mundane of tasks. Things you really dread doing, but have to eventually accomplish. I mean, I no doubtedly set a record. One of these tasks? Cleaning out my the car.. (insert scary music).

It wasn't SO bad. Lo and behold, I had a friend who needed to clean her car out, as well. And to build this excitement of car cleaning, she shared that she would be taking her car mats to the laundromat to wash them and did I need mine washed as well?

Yes, my friend washes her car mats in the industrial washers at the laundromat.

Genius.

Why hadn't I thought of that?

Off we trooped.

With soap, mats and quarters. Lots of quarters.

And what followed?

An impromptu photo shoot. And clean mats.

Remember when we were all kiddos and pockets were big.
I mean BIG.
Girls and guys wearing ridiculous bottoms with pockets so big you could hide your Trapper Keeper, your 500 piece Bonnie Bell Lip Smacker collection (I was partial to Dr. Pepper), and/or a sampling of your teen angst CD's. If you were wearing something on your lower half, I can guarantee you it had a pocket. And possibly a little knobby button.

Yeah, Jnco, Stussy, and Old Navy (circa 1996), I'm talking about you.

Imagine the ~~horror~~ digust I've felt when celebrities have casually turned up with unnecessary fabric all over their teensie little thighs in the form of...pockets!

Traitors, all traitors.

So, fast forward a bit.I was pilfering through the racks at Gap one day and spotted a pair. Actually this pair, to be exact:

An ugly, olive green heap of fabric. Snickering, I pulled them with me into the dressing room, imagining the good chuckle I would have at the ridiculousness.

Wait- Time Out- do you do that too or am I the only one? Try on things that you know will look awful? I do sometimes, just for the giggles...weirdo, I know.

After some brief hopping and sliding into the heap of olive green, they weren't... actually half bad. Like, I LIKED them. Lady like AND tough. GI Joe AND GI Jane.

And at a cool 17.95 + 40% off?

Bingo.

Looked even better.

Thus, beginning my love affair with the skinny cargo pant.

They go with everything. I promise. Throw on your T-shirt, your sleep shirt, your patterned top, your cute new shirt, the semi clean top you wore yesterday, whatever. Channel your inner UPS man and find you a pair.

Cognac, Cognac, Where Ever You Are...

Stay with me:

Scenario: You wake up one day, take a look at your sad, little _____ (fill in blank with some replaceable item), decide it's seen better days, and declare that "It's time for a new one!" So with some gusto, a hot pursuit begins.

I now hate a "hot pursuit" as I have been pursuit-ing since.., I dunno, THIS post!

What am I searching for.

A purse.

A simple tote to carry my crap from point A to B. But alas, I've made it difficult for myself. I know EXACTLY what I want, and what I don't want to pay.

The problem?

Finding it.

I've been head over heels for my current cognac leather tote for awhile now. Maybe over a year. Plain. Real Leather. Simple. Roomy, and bought at a TJ Maxx Price.

Bliss.

So, when I head it crying from all the unsightly wear and tear I've put it thru, I decided to OFFICIALLY start the hunt. Saving my money, checking EVERY possible place.

That was months ago. I feel like a tiger with leg cramps- I've been ready to pounce for W-A-Y too long. But I'm thru, THRU I tell you. I'm about to narrow it all down ( and purge some of the sites on My Favorites tab). Wanna see some contenders? They were all carefully interviewed in front of a panel committee and given a random drug screening...Kidding.

Annnd another awkward-awesome week...

AWKWARD:

* Up to this point, its been questionable, but as of late its official. I think I've reached adulthood. The law says the legal age is 18. I beg to differ. 27 is more appropriate. I find myself now sporadically thinking about my sodium intake, if should I be investing in something, and political debates. The icing on this adult size cake? I am made an appt. for Stanley Steemer to steam clean the carpets.

* People on the gym equipment next to you singing. Loudly. Off Key. Hey buddy, you're not Michael Bolton or Prince, so why don't we put a lid on it, hmm? Let's save those "chops" for shower solos.

*And while we are on gym people, the weird, creeper-esque guy repeatedly staring, winking, overtly flexing during my runs. Sir, you look 40 from all of your 'roids, I am 27. It would never work out between us.

*Let's have a serious discussion. Yes, by now, you know I work at a school. So occasionally, I could, in theory, be inclined to hear a little toot-toot from a kiddo, wouldn't you say? Boy, when I hear them it is a STRUGGLE not to laugh. So much so, that often the little darling will ask me why I am shaking all over. It's because you pooted, kid. And I feel weird hearing it.

*Eating a whole bag of Lays Dill Pickle chips. And your tongue swelling from the tartness.

AWESOME:

* Is the weather nice where you are? It's been highly unusual here. Warm and breezy. I'm torn. Yes, I do love flying home from work with the sunroof open. But yes, I do love a snow day. I'll be thankful for both.

*My latest love affair with... cargo pants. I know, I know! More about this later.

* Move over LeVar Burton, I've been reading. A lot.

Back in the Saddle Again

I'm jumping back in the saddle. The sewing saddle that is.

Yee Haw.

I was able to knock out the top to my 1st quilt just before the holidays.

But shortly after?

Pfffffffffffff.

All that hot air fizzled from my over ambitious balloon.

(Yes, I did hear you audibly try to make that little balloon noise)

So, now? I'm back.

I think.

Before I can wrap up my blanky, I have to decide on 2 main things:

1) I have my choice in hand-quilting or machine quilting the quilt layers. Since I am NOT Betsy Ross, a pioneer woman, or aiming to be cross-eyed, I'll be relying on modern technology to aid in assistance. So, machine quilting, here I come. And from what I gather, it might help me to have a "special foot" to feed the fabric layers.

THIS monster is a walking foot. It intimidates me. It has weird claw arm- thingys. Do I really need one of these? I 'm not going to be doing intricate back designs. I'm not entering my blanky in a county fair. I just want a simple zip-zip-zip over the pattern.

Perhaps I need to research this more.

2) The second thing I need to decide on is a backing. I need to choose a fabric that will be the underside to my chevy pattern. I'm looking for it to be more white with a black print, as my actual chevy stripes are more black with some white.

Clear as mud??

11 Umm Kinda Fun Facts...

1) I can touch my tongue to my nose.

2) When I was a kid, I played church softball and played progressively worse with each passing year. I quit when I missed every pitch thrown to me.

3) I keep polish on my toes at all times. Even in the winter. And if it chips, I take it all off and start over. What's that you say? What color is it now? Essie's Power Clutch:

4) In the 10th grade, I went to Europe- well, specifically Switzerland, Italy, and the French Riviera. 11 eye opening days of food, culture, and language. I think abut that trip at least once a week.

5) I might have shared it before, but I am really good at winning things on the radio. Really good. A few years ago, we won a trip to New York City to see a Broadway play. Why am I telling you this again? Because, the other day, I just miiiiiight have qualified to go to the Grammy's in a few weeks. Air high five.

6) My blood sugar is kinda wonky. I have, HAVE to eat breakfast. Everyday. Usually within an hour of waking up. No exceptions. If not, I'll start shaking and just fall out on the floor. And usually with said breakfast, I have to have a couple of swigs of Dr. Oz's Green Monster Drink. Yum!

7) Yes, I was a sorority girl in college. At a notorious party school. But I hate that term. And the negative associations it brings.

8) A work friend and I started a silly game. We play "Who Could Be Our Friend". Basically, it's a celebrity that you think could literally be your friend in real life. And you start a club. Who have we decided upon this week? Adele (because never mind her vocal chops, it's her British accent we're after), Kristen Stewart ( because she wears Chucks and we want her to be happy), Katy Perry ( she just seems so-gosh darn fun), Ben from the Bachelor ( need I detail this?), Rooney Mara ( so lovely, demure and a bat from hell, all in one ), and Zooey Deschanel (because of her bangs and eyeliner).

9) I didn't know what a jump drive was until 1.5 years ago.

10) I'm afraid of big dogs. Will I cry and wheeze and carry on. No. But if I see one, I get a bit geeked out.

11) My brother shut my left pinkie in the door when I was in the 1st grade. The doctor told Mi Madre that I was lucky he was able to save it.

1. Mac or PC? PC, I don't think I know how to turn on a Mac.
2. What is a song you can't help but dance to? Whoa man, this is impossible. I LOVE to dance. Tonite was Zumba and we did the Wobble- and I let it loose.
3. Do you collect anything or have way to much of something? In trouble here. Lately, it's been shoes and cardigans.
4. How do you separate your laundry? This may seem like a boring question, but I always wonder if there are better ways to do it. Brenon and I do separate laundry. I separate mine into lights, darks, towels/sheets, and handwashables.
5. What is the most adventurous thing you've ever done? Hmm, toughie. I think I am adventurous?? I've bungee jumped, gotten a tattoo, rappelled, and gotten my ear pierced at a gas station on a church trip. Does any of this count??
6. What would be your last meal on earth? Assuming calories don't matter, mushroom quesdillas, my mom's scalloped potatoes, Mrs. Cherry's cranberry salad, Gardetto Brown Garlic Circles, Diet Coke, a Reese's Peanut Butter Egg, and a few shortbread cookies from Panera. <Burp>
7. Where do you have no desire to travel to? Antarctica
8. How would you describe your decorating style? It once was Kirkland's-y (chuckle, chuckle), but now maybe shabby, light, and a bit more modern. With an art accent wall. Love those.
9. Naming something you are really good at. Go ahead, brag! I'm good at snow skiing.
10. Did you have a pet growing up? Yes. We had a slew of intermittent dogs, and then we had a cat named Phoebe, after the character on Friends. We thought it was a girl when we got him, but surprise! It was a Phil. Nevertheless, we didn't change the name, thus giving our ~~spawn of Satan~~ cat a complex.
11. What is your dream career? Oh boy, this is a great question. I LOVE speech. I LOVE therapy. But if I had to say, it would be a speech pathologist who moonlighted as a writer/buyer for Nordstrom's or some uber chic magazine, and having her Master's as a chef (can you have that??), with my own TV show. Did you get all of that? :)

Recently, I shared a few goals of mine- stuff I'm actually going to try to knock out this year. But, after chewing on it awhile, I realized I didn't add any "Home Goals". Do I have bits around the house that I want to over knick-knack and re-vamp. Hmmm...

Well, for starters I COULD start here.

Exhibit A: The GHASTLY upstairs.

It's not that I don't think I can, or that I'm stumped on what to do with it all- I really just feel unmotivated to do so. I've thought about it for months, weighing the pros and cons.

Should I? Shouldn't I?

Should I have it together for Bunco in a month. Or should I wait to spend the money.

All of this brings me to point Numero 2: I don't feel like this is really my style anymore.

Sure I like the traditional feel, but who says you have to get married and buy everything at Kirkland's? Or in nice boxed packages?

So, I'll leave you with a positive and share what I DO like. What I WOULD want.

Project List of Things I DO like, that MAY be accomplished in 2012 with the Apparent Money Tree I Have Growing in the Backyard

1) Lighter colors. Oh, how I pine away. Grays, creams and whites, mixed in with my black and camel. NEUTRAL. Here, like this...

2) Less red. I like it. But in small doses. With the aforementioned #1. Good-bye red ugly couch. And maybe red ugly bathroom.

3) Moulding. Man, it just makes everything better.

4) Architectural pieces and graphic fabrics. I am really starting to like structure, and the peacefulness it brings. It's so snappy with white. Do you read Emily A. Clark?? A great blog that has some of the architectural aesthetic I am looking for. I am nabbing a few photos of hers..

5) Something from IKEA. Heaven help me, the closest one is in Atlanta. 351 miles away to be exact. Shoo wee, Lawd, who's with me for a girls road trip??

Happy New Year, friends!

I hope your night was magical- filled with sparkles, party dresses, horns, and boisterous shouts of merriment. Yes, indeed, more magical than my merriment of blue fleece pajamas on the couch.

Do you make a resolution(s)?

I try to, but it always takes me a few days.

Last year, I was able to knock out a few..

The upstairs got painted, I finished grad school (Hallelujah!!), Sp. Ed. conferences were attended, and Bible Studies were continued.. But I didn't run a half. Despite me trying to sign up 6 MONTHS early, it was already full. Meh, oh well.

So after some thoughtful consideration, here are mine this year, ranging from obscure to serious.

1) Still continue to try to run a Half Marathon. I reallllly want to.

2) Be able to continue blogging. Maybe even add that little Disqus tab thingy so I can comment back?? Have you seen it?

3) Actually finish my quilt. I finally pieced the top together, but then promptly came to a screeching halt. I just need to zip zip zip the batting and back together. Easy peasy.

4) Save money. I mean, shouldn't we all?

5) Maybe branch out of school speech therapy world and venture back into the hospital waters again. No, not quit my precious job, but maybe just blend the two? But much better than oil and water, even thought they couldn't be more different.

6) My last one, and most personal, is one that I don't know how to even name or describe to you in a simple sentence. Perhaps as mostly women readers, you'll understand? Maybe you can relate or have felt this way. Or maybe not. High five, if you haven't.

I think for the last year or so I've been in a fog. Confused. On autopilot. Whatever you want to call it. Doing well, personable, and sociable, but just checked out. This feeling has slowly burned over time, starting off as a bit of smoke, and now, a full on bonfire. It's only been recent that I've really paid attention, despite its continued presence and self- medicating with "Emotional Rolaids".

After some pondering, I think the root of it is I've just been "safe" or "just fine". Backwards, I know- but stay with me. There is absolutely nothing wrong with either of these emotions, but I suspect that both of these have led me to feel so conflicted. I've tried to please others to the point I have diminished any kind of personal opinions I might have to non-existent. As women, sometimes we can cater to others in such a way that you could wind up losing yourself, at your own expense. I can confidently tell you I have no earthly idea who I am. Not a clue. Why do I care what she says or what they don't do? What he tells me or what I should need. And all of this? It's made me worrisome and insanely self-conscious. Traits that no one should have consistently, at this intensity.

I dunno, perhaps this is a case of "the growing-up's". That everyone feels blind at some point, and this is just my turn. A dear friend of mine calls it being "in her winter", where it's cold and lonely and she finds it difficult to see the fruit of her life, even though she knows that it's there. Perhaps that is it? Maybe...

So here's another resolution for me and you- let's really find out who we are this year. Like some corny line from a book or magazine, I really mean it. I want to find what makes me tic, what I like and don't, even if that means actually feeling, the good and the bad, to get me there. Make an effort. Whaddya say?

*Have you guys seen the Citibank commercial- the one where this couple talks about having a great time using their Citibank points, blah blah. But, then you see the lady climbing solo on this:

Does anyone else find this PROFOUNDLY dangerous???

*I've watched the same pair of shoes on eBay for the last 3 weeks, each time missing the auction. And each time, messaging the seller, giving some cheeky response as to why I missed it. Each time promising the seller "if you re-list it, I will buy it"..whoopsie...

* No matter if I have one day off or or two weeks, as in this case, my diet on a non-working day is AWFUL. RANDOM. I mean, I start off strong, but quickly stumble throughout the day. What possesses me to eat the things I eat? Case in point, let's evaluate my caloric intake today, shall we: small bowl of oatmeal+ blackberries and turkey sausage, six Mrs. Fields thumbprint cookies, whole grain cereal dipped in butter, 3 Tootsie Rolls, Campbell's Chunky Noodle Soup, another round of cereal and butter, a small baking sheet of seasoned fries with Ranch dressing, and a can of mushrooms . Now I feel weird telling you that. Perhaps its a vitamin deficiency....

*Also on a day off, you will find me frequently in some sort of T-shirt and PJ/ sweatpant combo with....a pair of obnoxious shoes. Wedges, heels, summer sandals, whatever I fancy. Just me, and my shoes, obnoxiously snacking...

Awesome:

* Gosh, I can already tell. Just Dance for Xbox is going to change my life. Watch out Black Eyed Peas, I've now got skilllzzz.

*Speaking of shoes and days off, I have the BEST tip ever. Do you have those pesky new leather shoes that are a bit snug, or that you know are gonna rub blisters? Heels, boots, flats. Wet them. Yup, put them on and dunk them in water and then let them dry to your feet. I will commonly take a shower with my new ballet flats on, and then do my chores around the house. You're welcome.

* What is all this buzz about the book series, The Hunger Games? I see the hype about how great the books are, and now there is a movie coming out? It looks great from the trailer- I might have to check this out.

* Man, I'm really digging glasses. The big chunky kind. Ive had them since the 3rd grade, and just now really embracing them. I'm on the hunt for some like this:

This year's almost up ( hallelujah) and despite its busyness, I HAVE managed to sneak in a few projects, both for the home and for creative-sake.
Here's just a little recap...

In January, I admitted my big secret of an upstairs, with its haphazard leftovers of decorating. I started thinking about finishing it, and even scored a new TV console to paint. Mind you, it still looks the exact same as I type.. eeek.

In February (and out of sheer boredom), I re-arranged our Master bedroom. And within a week, it was promptly pushed back...

Anticipating Spring, in March, I whipped up a new front door wreath..

and gave a corner shelf a make-over....

In April, I whipped up my own version of a stacked pot, tiered thingy..

And then summer popped up. Despite me feverishly finishing grad school, I managed to be at my craftiness, painting my buffet and outside bench...

..buy my ~~very amateur~~ very own sewing machine and facelift a chair for a friend..

(i know, right? it's what she wanted..)

... and even whip together a knockoff Anthro necklace.

But this Fall and Winter, I've r-e-a-l-l-y slowed down my pace. Oh sure, I've whipped up a few skirts...

... started (and finished) a quilt top..

... and taken a much needed girls trip...

....buuuuut, that's about it.

Welp, it's finally over..

Don't get me wrong- I really enjoy this time of year, but I'm always ready to breathe a sigh of relief following Christmas and the hoopla surrounding it. I honestly think I'd turn green if I saw another cheese ball, dip, or brownie!

While I know that Christmas is not about gifts and presents and said brownies, I DID want to share a few things, that I was thoughtfully gifted.

From my original wishlist, I received a new pair of Chucks, a new pair of jeggings and the Temple Grandin Thinking in Pictures book. BUT I was pleasantly surprised by a few other things:

1) A new Ronaldo Prayer Bracelet. They're the most lovely delicate wire bracelets. Around my neck of the woods, they can be bought in boutiques, or you can find them online. I love them, and have another one that I wear everyday.

2) A Black and Decker Palm Sander, to use once I get motivated enough for projects again.

3) An "oh-so-cute" Kate Spade Library Books Mug from my sweet girlfriend-in-law, Mel. She has splendid taste and this is right up my alley.

4), 6) Lots of nail polish, which I am loving. This year, I've rediscovered nail polish. I used to love it (when I say I used to love it, I was like a 5th grader). So many great choices now.

5) And the BEST board game ever, Apples to Apples. An adjective descriptive game, it's hilarious with friends or at parties. We play the Jr. version sometimes for therapy- the kids love it!

But the piece de resistance? Mom and Dad got us....

... an Xbox Kinect with a gift card for games...

Whoa, I know!

I foresee some Just Dance parties at Casa Speechie.. you guys are welcome to partake in the awkward dancing.

And speaking of gift cards, are you a fan? I totally am. It's free money that just encourages my thoughtful shopping habit. In post Christmas ritual, Mi Madre and I got up early Monday morning to Target shop and browse the sales. And law, did we find some deals! You guys wait for Part 2- I'll fill you in on the things I 've grabbed. I've just barely touched my gift card limits.

Hooray!

Back in the "Land of the Living", with a new computer! Honestly, what did people do before them? Being computer-less, even just for a few days, really puts a kink in your step.

Did y'all have a wonderful Thanksgiving? I certainly did. My elastic waist pants held up nicely against my "bottomless-pit of a plate".

While holidays DO mean family, friends, and food- for me, they ALSO mean driving. My very wonderful in-laws live about 1.5 hours away from Memphis, where my parents live. We try to spend time with each, so to the highways we fly!

Some of the fun of visiting my in-laws is staying in their beautiful home. It was an old church parsonage, and it is LITERALLY like waking up in a bed and breakfast. My mother-in-law has a fantastic eye when it comes to antiques, the beat up, and "maybe-this-has-potential". When you arrive, she hands you a Diet Coke and shows you the paint projects she's working on or the Yard Sale finds she recently grabbed. A true thrifter, that girl is not afraid to dumpster dive or haggle a price. While we were visiting for Thanksgiving, I managed to nab a few pictures of their home.

Since hubster and my brother-in-law no longer live at home, Mrs. Cherry likes to "play" in the house. Moving furniture, hauling accessories, you name it. I guarantee you not ANYTHING you see cost over $20.

Yup, she had a "Fall Festival" Christmas tree up.

And see that big Chinese dog up there in the corner?

She paid just a handful of bucks for it, later learning it's worth hundreds.

This is one of their guest rooms, lovingly called "my" room, as this is where I always stayed when hubster and I dated umpteen years ago.

Even the bathroom gets the treatment..

I just love how she throws stuff together and somehow it just all goes.

And of course, you have to decorate some of the outside. This is just some of their carport...

-Pulling up to a stop light. Car next to me is cutting, smelling, and rolling the fattest cigar I have ever seen. It's 7:00 in the morning. Driver looks away sheepishly. Guess some of us don't need coffee.

- Explaining to a 5 year old that "No, God really didn't make my legs gray and hole-y like cheese. Yes, yes I promise they are just tights. Um, no, you can't see."

- Do you ever catch ole Coach Lou Holtz on ESPN? One of the sports commentators? His lateral lisp is so ferocious, it's like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Awesome

- Lays Dill Pickle potato chips. A pleasant alternative to heavenly Salt and Vinegar chips.

- The Twilight: Breaking Dawn soundtrack that I've been blasting since Tues. Do I have all of them so far? Yes, yes I do. On an ACTUAL CD. Don't judge.

- coming to the realization that some people just can't see the forest for the trees. You wish, hope, pray, beg for a difference. Silence. You beg, plead, pray more fervently. Nothing. But then one day you wake up and realize all the energy you spend wishing, hoping, praying, is all a waste. Because they can't see the larger picture, and never will. And that is ok.

A few weeks ago, out of the blue, she shared that she read some Gap stores were really struggling finacially, sales were down, and some stores would be shut.

Gasp.

Horror.

Do you still shop at Gap? How 'bout on a regular basis? Their kiddo clothes are pretty cute, but what about for adults? I like it in waves. Some seasons I LOVE it. But then some seasons- fuhgettabout it.

Figuring I would go help stimulate the economy, I popped into mine.

I decided to go up to Nashville for the weekend and visit the BF. She had some church-friend Halloween parties on her list, and she so kindly invited me up. She is a "speechy" too, and totally rocks some AAC equipment.

As you can see, we decided to "theme" it. Fighting crime all nite long. However, she makes a more convincing Batgirl, than my Wal-mart Catwoman.

Meow.

I was unpacking last nite, and gave my closet a double take. There are several items I have that still have tags on them, tags pulled but never worn, or worn maybe once, that I KNOW I won't get around to wearing. I am toying with the idea of a blog sale.

Let's Go Flying...

So late posting these.

A few weeks ago, my brother, Drew, and his sweet girlfriend, Mel, came in town. While they were here, my family and I managed to catch the Blue Angels air show. My brother is a pilot and works for a private air plane company in Nashville. They specialize in catering to the "stars" and "big-wigs" that fly in. It is not unusual for my brother to call and tell me that he was working with Carrie Underwood, who was just flying to LA for the day for some shopping or the fact that Garth Brooks knows and ASKS for my brother by name.

We are so proud of him!

Here are a few pics I snapped while at the show. It was kinda gray that day, but we had a good time!

Drew is explaining some things to Mom and Dad. If there was anyone who knew ANYTHING about planes, it would be Drewsie. It's almost savant-like. You can point to a spec in the sky, and he can tell you what it is. I think he knew more than some of the workers there.

Ahhh.. finally.

Fall Break.

One of my favorite-est times of the year.

Every year, about this time, some of my dearest friends and I pack up a car and head to her family's cabin in the Heber Springs area. It's a weekend of laughter, squeals, red lipstick, staying up late, inappropriateness, and fun.

This year was no exception. Radiating strength and inner Girl-Power, we decided to pack up our old-school Timberlands and try to hike a local ~~mountain~~ mound, Sugar Loaf.

Shoo-weee.

It was a real hike-walking up trails and then actual climbing the face of the rock.

It was a beautiful climb!

I promise I have 2 arms.

When we reached the summit, I was struck by how blessed I really am. So in awe of the glorious things the God has given us.

Hey, fall friends!

So glad the weather is starting to dip in temperatures. Yesterday, I left work kinda late and it was so nice out. My mind started to zone out into leaves, and cooler weather, possible boots I am looking at, and textured tights and fall skirts.

Hmm...

Somehow on my way home, my car steered itself over to the fabric store. While there, I picked up a fall-ish ikat print and some good 'ole elastic.

(I promise its not this "rasta-farian" in person).

Easy peasy!

Wanna make one?

Here's how:

YOU'LL NEED

* 1- 1 1/2 yards of some type of stretch fabric. Mine is polyester/rayon blend with a bit of stretch.

* Elastic for waist. I have a 2 in. elastic band, but a 1 1/2 would work, too. I got a yard of this just to be safe.

* Sewing machine, pins, scissors, thread, etc.

A BIT OF HELP: I tried to follow this tutorial but realized Sharroll at Jo Ann's fabric cut my fabric wrong. (Duh, Sharroll I knew what I was talking about in the first place) So I tweaked it.

STEPS

Go ahead and open your fabric, print side down. Lay your elastic at the top, on the long side. You are going to start to make a case for your elastic to slide thru. Starting at one side, using your elastic as a pattern, fold the fabric over and pin.

Keep pinning and sliding the elastic down, until the top is pinned.

Next, go sew a straight line where you just pinned. You might also have to re-watch the Instructional Video that came with your new sewing machine, ~~since this is your 2nd time sewing~~ just to make sure.

Next, lay fabric out again, and measure your desired length for you. I chose knee length, but a longer skirt would be cute, too. Cut and go back and hem it.

Now, you have a little case at the top and your skirt hemmed. Take your elastic, measure it to your waist, and cut appropriately.

Now, the boring part. Turn on some tube. Grab your elastic, and slide, squench, and bunch it into the case at the top. This will give it some soft pleating.

Smooth out your pleats, nice and even. Turn your fabric print side in, and pin the edges together. Sew up your elastic and where you just pinned- AND you are done!

Do a little fist pump and victory dance ~~that you didn't cry or say ugly words at your machine~~ at your completed project!

Awkward-Awesome Thursday- School Edition

Kids say the darndest things, don't they?

Working in an elementary school, with little ones, sometimes makes for a silly day. However, I love it- and am blessed by their (mostly) sweet spirits. So today's awesome-awkward is based on the RIDICULOUS things I've actually heard in the past few weeks. So awkward, they give me the giggles all over again.

* "Mrs. Lindsey, are you married to the gym teacher?"

* "Do you have kids? Your belly is big". (Uhhh.. thanks?)

* "My Daddy says the HW you send home is silly and that I don't have to do it". (Oh ok, talk

with a lisp forever, then)

* We're playing a phonological awareness game and rhyming some words. Should have known

that 'truck' is not a good one to start with....

* "Mrs. Lindsey, I smell pooted. Do you know how to do that?" (Nope)

And although WILDLY inappropriate, my personal fave:

Child and I are reviewing some SH- picture cards. Shoe, Shark, Sheriff, Shirt, Shaving Cream. Shaggy dog, etc. Face lights up and small tap on the shoulder.

Child: "Hey know what Mrs. Lindsey? My daddy shaves."

Me: "Oh, good? Does a shark shave? Does a shoe shave?

Child: "No! That is so silly!"

"BUT know what? My daddy shaves his teeter!"

Missing Missoni...

A few weeks ago, as I was casually perusing through some TV, I heard that Target was coming out with a new clothing line. You know, those "famous" ones that run for a few weeks, featuring a handful of unique pieces?

When I heard it would be Missoni, I was over the moon excited!

Funky patterns, capes, knitwear, and sweater bathing suits with a kinda 70's retro vibe.

I mean, duh, we ALL need a sweater bathing suit.
But it still would be fun to see it up close.

So, after work, I stomp to my local Target and what do I see?

Nothing.

Nada.

Zilch.

Hmmm.

After careful "review of the situation" (ok, polite grilling of the random 16-year old boy clerk), I learn that they are all SOLD OUT, excpet for a few larger sizes, and mis-matched pairs of rain boots.

Cheese and rice.

It was a "swarm of women fighting over this stuff", he shared.

"Women buying 6 or 7 of the same thing. I heard lots of ladies were going to re-sell it on eBay. And they told us our website crashed."

Hrmph, I thought.

It seems like EVERYONE and their momma has a pair. I see them everywhere. With dresses. With pants. With skirts. With skinnies.

So naturally, I've kept my eye on them.

Literally.

Did I spend the second half of a college football game last year, head down, counting pairs seen, to pass the time?

Maybe.

But that is beside the point.

But gosh dern, they are just too cute.

My only reservation?

The " not-so-savvy" $149.00 price tag.

True to my word, here's a few fashion pics from the game.

A warning about the dress code: Ole Miss ladies and gents LOVE a chance to dress up. So why not combine a love of dressing up with football?

Seersucker, pearls, blazers, sky-high heels, and collared shirts The more ridiculous, the better. You can't walk five feet without seeing some girl teetering on too-high shoes, or a Frat-Daddy sweating to death in his blazer.

I wish I knew why, but it's just the way we are.

Oh, Hello Again..

Oh friends, I am so excited.

So terribly excited!

It's that time of the year again.

In kind, gentle, lady-like fashion, I can't begin to express how excited I am over some college football.

Here in the South, college football it is almost like another religion. It's one part sport, one part tailgating and two parts major social event. My friend, Jenny Beth, explains it quite well- dresses, drinks, and dates are on most minds on Saturdays in the fall, across the South.

Me and me mate went to school at The University of Mississippi, or Ole Miss. Known for red-shirting Miss Americas, fronting some of the Manning dynasty ( Hello, Archie, and Eli ) and in an unbiased opinion, the initiator of the Southern tailgate party.

Don't believe me? What are you talking about?

Imagine going to a picnic to watch football in a fancy cocktail dress and heels, with 60,000 of your closest friends.

Bingo.

Me mate and I just got back from the 1st game, against BYU.

We lost.

BUT at least we had a great time.

Paint decks, a rotary sander, old, thrifty finds. You get the drift.

But I need some ideas.

School has depleted all my superhuman creative juices.

So, I'm thinking about giving in to the latest bandwagon for some inspiration.

Yup, STILL haven't joined.

Shock. Gasp.

Like I might be the last female soul in America who hasn't.

I know about this Pinterest, the premise behind it, and the "gloriousness" of all things readily accessible.

So now what?

Do I just sign up?

Split Personality

This afternoon was one of those afternoons that just seemed so peaceful. Just a regular, ole Friday afternoon, rolling into the driveway. It made me stop and appreciate where I live a bit more. How blessed I am that I can live in two worlds: fast paced and the easy life.

It's true that I love city-life.

Fast driving on the interstate, cement, shopping and skyscrapers. The sound of a cash register, revolving doors in a big building, manicures and a Starbucks on every corner.

By no means am I saying the Memphis area is comparable to that of some place like New York.

However, it works for me.

And I like it. Alot.

But there are just some times that I REALLY look forward to the drive home.

My (semi) new home in north Mississippi.

Leaving the honking, the smell of the mall, and the salesperson's cheesy smiles behind.

And cruisin' on in to a less hectic life.

Where towns still have water towers.

And there are agricultural buildings in your backyard.

Places where street lights come on.

And Mississippi sunsets on the 4-lane are an everyday event.

And though very, very blurry, you can still eat at local places like this one I have yet to try.

I'm having second thoughts here, guys.

A few weeks ago, to celebrate the end of my v-a-s-t studying, I found some early Fall things on sale. One of which was a new purse.

Not really being a purse gal, I kinda snatched it up on a whim.

Since lugging it around, it just doesn't feel the same.

Love the way it looks, it's gray leather, gold hardware, and size.

BUUUT

When I set it down, it just kinda flops open.

I'm needing some structure here, peeps.

The more it flops, the more it irks me.

Why are purses so hard to shop for?

So I'm in full pursuit of something that looked like my old one.

A plain, stiff, leather tote. Large. Roomy. Cognac/camel-y in color.

It's the middle of the week, and I'm already zonked.

Too pooped to pop.

Only Wednesday.

And leave one random Walmart sack on the floor, and refuse to put the contents away.

A Few for Fall

Last year, I needed some new things, but just never got around to it. Now,with a few Fall sales starting to appear, I've jumped at the chance to swipe a few items.

Hallelujah-I'm finished!

I wrapped up all of my course work, late last nite. It was all due at midnight, and I coasted to the finished line at 11:50.

Slow and steady wins the race!

What did I do to celebrate?

Found myself a few "happys", of course. Here's just a hodge-podge of things I nabbed up.

My newest love for fall?

Shorts and tights. It might sound silly, but I am digging it.

Lastly, I snatched up an ON SALE purse. I've needed a new one, and I was in the right place, at the right time! Don'tcha love that? Too bad, no pics of this one.

On a sad note, RIP Sony camera. You have been faithful, but I am not sure why you are throwing a temper tantrum and not syncing to the computer anymore. You are old and worn out, and I am considering replacing you with a newer, cooler friend, the DSLR camera.

Gonna party like its my birthday.

Because it is!

You see, it's my birthday today and I'm 27.

I'm still quite a "baby" or "teensy-of-a-thing", as I'm described by the Civil War patients I work with.

So, today is kinda random. Nothing on the agenda. And because I am drawing a blogging blank- I'll just share 27 random facts about me, and we'll call it even-steven, eh?

(Warning: a long post ahead)

1. I've never had a peanut-butter-jelly sandwich. Ever. Thinking about it sends me into sensory overload. Blech.

2. I have 2 brothers named Drew. Kinda. One real one. And a brother-in-law. Both Drewsies are wonderful men, and I am blessed to know and love them both. Oh what's that you say? Yes, yes, I'm sorry they are both taken.

3. My first pair of "grown up" lady shoes were for my 8th grade graduation. They bared a striking resemblance to this lovely:

I somehow convinced me Mom that I both NEEDED them and could wear them. They were a super high, clunky Mary Jane platform, 90's style that no 8th grader should wear. I stomped around in them like I was Queen of the World. Thus, beginning my love affair with shoes.

4. If I wasn't an "almost speech pathologist", I think I would be a chef.

5. I played the viola for 6 1/2 years. It's a little bit bigger than a violin.

6. I have a STRONG dislike for milk, mayo, and olives.

7. I've needed glasses with bi-focals since the 3rd grade. I know what you're thinking.

8. My initials spell L.A.M.E

9. A short story: I was born with stick straight hair. In the 2nd grade, I got a perm. And it has NEVER washed out. My hair has remained horrendously curly since then. Praise Jesus for a flat iron!

10. Do you know some people who ~~like~~ LOVE "edges" on foods? "Edges" on brownies, cakes, rolls? I am not one of those people. I will purposefully dig my way in the middle of your perfect brownie pan, just so I won't have an "edge". Sorry in advance.

11. My Mother-in- Law's first name is a fruit. No, not cantaloupe, guess again.

12. I still make my bed everyday.

13. I wore leopard print high heels on my wedding day.

14. I have a tattoo. Where? Mine is more of a "Tramp- Stamp". Kidding. No, its of an ichthus on my lower back. It's a Christian symbol used when Christianity was forbidden in Rome.

I would love to get more tattoos. I've always loved them. I think the alter ego to my Ann Taylor- Banana Republic self is Kat Von D. She is just so lovely.

15. I don't have an iPhone. Gasp!

16.My family and I have a special tradition of going to get breakfast. On days when I am not working or around holidays, it's not unusual for one of us to call on a moments notice for some pancakes.

17. I would say I'm an expert at winning things on the radio. Something about the thrill of knowing random bathroom or music trivia appeals to me. I've won countless movie passes, concert tickets, CD, movies, and we won a trip to NY. Yeah, I'm pretty good.

18. I was 2 credits shy of a minor in French. Why did I pick French? I'm not sure, either.

19. If I fall down ANYTIME, i.e tripping, falling off a stool or chair, misstepping, I will ALWAYS cry. I can't help it. I think it just scares me.

20. MY Drew (not my brother in law, Drew) and I once made a music video to the Bee Gee's "Staying Alive".

21. I believe I have forgotten how to write in cursive. When I have to fill out some lines that make you write a statement in cursive, swearing an oath, I just write in print with some little squiggles.

22. I love make-up so much. More specifically, I love wearing a ton of it. Seldom will I go anywhere without it ALL on. Thick and heavy. In 6th grade mom took me to the Clinique counter, and said "if I was to wear it, I would wear it right".

23. Being a collector is in my blood. I've seen my days of trolls, Beanie Babies, Native American paraphernalia and semi-precious rock boxes.

24. I can chew 1 piece of gum all day- and frequently do.

25. I know how to ski. Actually, quite well.

26. As a stress reliever, I take Zumba classes at the Y. It's where I shake my money-maker.

LAST, but not least.

27. I am thankful for a wonderful life filled with family and dear friends! So blessed.

Chapped Around the Collar

Today at the hospital, I asked to try out some of the equipment. If I'm going to be familiar with techniques, I need to experience them firsthand, right?

Right- my thoughts exactly.

So, I asked to be hooked up to the "Vital-Stim" machine.

What is it??

Essentially, they're electrodes that can be maneuvered in such a way that it provides electrical "stimulation" to the underlying tissue/muscle, allowing you to regain some strength in weak muscles. Like this 'ole gal:

However, it's controversial. I still don't know if it works. But I wanted to try.

We slapped it on my neck and turned it on.

Whoa nelly.

I could barely get it on without having some serious issues.

Think: eyes bugging out of my head & every muscle in my face from my nose down tensed.

INTENSE burning/pressure.

But from what I read, it shouldn't hurt.

I thought I was going to play it cool, when a co-worker pointed out I was losing some function in my face.

Sweet Lord, Shepard of Judea.

We ripped those bad boys off just in time for me not to drool in front of my new friends.

My take-away present?

Some sweet dime-sized burns, that might look like hickeys, on my neck.

Why am I telling you all of this?

As a public safety announcement:

I love a good chuckle.

Especially one that involves reminiscing about my childhood.

So when I saw a funny perfume post from my friend Lara, I instantly got the giggles. I knew I had to share some of my list with her and you!

I've had an arsenal of fragrance around me, it seems. Some of my first fragrant memories were of my mom. My mom is a strong, independent lady and there is NO finer fragrance in this world that translates "strong" than Avon's Odyssey.

Just look at that 80's packaging! If I remember correctly, it had a distinct, kinda Oriental smell to it. Haha- it's the farthest thing that could describe my mom.

She wore it for ump-teen years, until we both switched to Clinique Happy, years ago. I am pleased to report she is still faithfully "Happy" to this day.

I, on the other hand, have changed my mind like you change socks and shoes. My first fragrance was Elizabeth Arden "Sunflowers".

Yeah, you remember it?? What possesses a 4th grader to want to smell like dying, drugstore flowers? I loved it and was happily drenched in the soap, lotion, and perfume, too stinky to notice my poor choice.

After a short time with my beloved "Sunflowers", I went through an intermittent "Sample Phase". There was no rhyme or reason to it. It was simply what I yanked out of Seventeen, Y&M (oooh oldie right there), or Teen Magazines. It was a hodge podge of CK one, Tommy Girl, Clinique Happy, Victoria Secret Rapture, Gap Dream and others. Blech.

A side note about body splash. It I was not wearing magazine perfume, it was faithful body splash that kept me going. A pump here, a pump there. There is nothing like smelling like a Sun- Ripened Raspberry, Juniper Berry, or a Country Apple at the end of the day. I am confident in saying that I independently kept the Memphis Bath and Body Works open, with my allowance, from 5th until 9th grade.

So what do I wear now?

I am both proud and ashamed to admit that I'm stuck on knockoff smells.

I see you judging. and laughing in disbelief.

No really, I popped into a Cato with a friend almost a year ago and was waiting while she tried on clothes. I wandered over to the VERY limited perfume section and huffed away on a "If-you-like Victoria- Beckham-than-you'll-love-Dream". I bought it for $4. And I continue to buy it for $4. Call me crazy, but I love it. This is the real version that I've smelled, in eagerness, but do NOT like.

Mine even looks exactly the same. And you can't beat it for $4. I would say this is my everyday smell.

I also wear a few others, just when I'm feeling festive.

Awkward:

-cat calls from the Valet Parking 'gents. That I have to walk in front of everyday. I mean, really? Really? It's not even 8, I'm wearing scrubs, I have a 1992 clip claw in my hair, and I'm pretty sure I have on yesterday's makeup.

- talking with a patient about oral hygiene and realizing halfway through my "schpil" she has no clothes on from the waist down. Umm, cause I know I was geeked out, not sure if she felt the same way.

-trying to convince someone that honey-thick lemon flavored water is "delicious".

- (insert yelling voice) "no sir, I'm not your daughter. My name is Lindsey. I'm here to see how well you are swallowing. No, not Rubie. No sir, not Leslie. Lindsey. No sir, you almost had it. Yes sir, I know it sounds like Laney. I'm Lindsey". Yeah, I just went with Mindy the rest of the time.

- crammed in an elevator with 2 wheelchair'd patients, a floor food cart, 4 other therapists, and an air tank. The silence and eye avoidance was giving me the creeps.

- watching a robbery take place. The 90 year old thief in question had just guzzled 2 cans of Ensure and had stashed 4 in her wheelchair.

Awesome:

-I have a boyfriend. He is 89. He tells me the date and shuffles to the calendar to mark it off. We talk about the old days, but I just nod politely. He guesses my age, and every time he gasps in real surprise that I'm 27. It immediately follows with, "You don't look a day over 19". I tell him "it takes one to know one". He roars with laughter.

-how it is so nice when people go out of their way to make you comfortable, when you are a fish out of water. A cold, flopping fish on the cement.

- a nice writing pen. Mmm...you know what I'm talking about. The ones that are advertised with a "comfort grip" and don't glob up all over the place.

- the shredder box. I just love using one, and the feeling I get when shredding.

How I Loathe Thee, Studying..

Ughh.

It's that time again.

I have a month left of school.

A month.

I'm so close to my Master's.

For two and a half years, I've been busy.

But only a month left.

Oh, how I loathe,thee.

I hate 2 am test-taking.

Printing out ENDLESS power points.

Treatment plans and pain management, you are beginning to blur.

I feel like I am doing assessments in my sleep.

But.

Recently, I heard a quote. From the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, of all places.

For what it's worth: it's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. Hairy Chair-y

Recently, a girlfriend of mine asked me to help her "re-do" a chair she nabbed from her parents house. She, being more contemporary, wanted a completely different change from the 1981 look that the chair featured.

Loving a new project, I happily obliged.

Whoa, is all I gotta say.

She brought over a cute, squat, cane-back club chair. It still had good bones, but a butt-ugly seat.

She told me she was going to "shock me" , but she was looking for a "new, neutral finish, with a hairy seat". Had I seen that before, she asked?

Hmmm.

After much ham-hawing, yes, yes I think I had.

I pulled up The Nester page and showed said friend about a fur covered chair, recently completed.

Was that the look she was going for?

YES!!, was her exuberant cry!

We went to work. We drove all over Memphis looking for the right kind of faux fur fabric. Something with a thick nap to it. We tried craft stores, fabric stores, and drapery shops.

Teensy side note and reader review: Do NOT go into Calico Corners of Memphis looking less than put together. I am not sure if it was my bare summer legs or day old pedicure that offended them. They gave us the snub. I wanted to come to the store later in the day, Julia Roberts style (in Pretty Woman), with bags in tow and shout "Big Mistake".

Anyhoo.

We FINALLY found the fabric of choice at the second Hobby Lobby. We officially dubbed the pitiful, on-sale, bathroom rug "Project Seat Cover".

Now at home, how on earth were we to attach the darn thing?

Enter: my black belt in Hot Gluing.

So, yeah, we just hot glued it to the seat. She didn't want it finished on the underside, so that was fine with me.

Very fuzzy, but you get the idea.

After we "covered" it, we plopped it back in the chair and admired our work.

Umm.

Well, she LOVES it, to the say the least. To me, it looks like a hairy chair. But I am glad if that is what she was going for.

We're going to go back and paint it another day. She is thinking distressed white, or gray, perhaps? Still deciding..

Hey friends.

I wanted to say a quick thanks for all the kind words from the other day. I was in a mood, and shortly thereafter alleviated it by stomping in to the Goodwill to drop off a large load of clothes. I immediately felt better.

Annnd I resisted the urge to make a lap around the furniture.

That is some will power, peeps, will power.

So thanks.

However, I DO want to share a recent find(s) with you. One of my favorite blogs is My Milk Glass Heart.

You should.

In no way does she know I am spreading the love. But her writing and style is fun, funky, and lovely, all wrapped up in a pleasant life sushi roll. There is no reason not to share, since we all love sushi, right?

Anyhoo.

I was tooling around a few weeks ago, catching up with some recent finds she scored and fell in love with this dress.

A super-flattering, drapey thing, with a breathe-able elastic waist. Granny style.

Fast forward to the other day. I was making a semi-paycheck Target run and spotted not only the olive, but the black on SALE for $6 each.

They jumped in my buggy faster than Brad and Angelina got together.

Now wearing them a few times, I am pleased to say they are my go to outfit of the summer.

Afraid

I am having one of those days.

I don't know how to tangibly describe it.

It's just a feeling that creeps up from time to time.

Not often.

But here and there.

Perhaps I have been cleaning out my closet too much.

Or sorting.

Or perhaps it is because I've been overwhelmed by the amount of stuff upstairs.

I feel afraid.

Well, I think that is how I feel.

I feel like shopping or accumulating stuff is the only thing I'm good at.

Or the only thing I do.

Or I let it define me.

Doesn't that sound ridiculous?

It does to me. But is that because I can't see it for myself?

There's more.

I am afraid because of this very thought that I might seem shallow.

Or selfish.

Or uncontent (Is that a word?)

Or lost.

Or.. I don't know what.

Am I? Now looking at stuff.. I feel almost embarrassed by it.

Ashamed, even.

I see ~~millions upon millions~~ a couple of friends or loved ones or childhood buds in past times with a passel of children.

Or getting married.

Or getting pregnant.

Or becoming grandmothers.

Somehow stumble upon and read this and think "That poor girl, she will change".

"She will realize what's important"

"If I were her I would never, ever just pick up a pair of shoes, just because."

"She wastes her money."

"She acts so snooty."

I am afraid that's what I am.

That "poor girl" who is seeking attention with things.

Things that don't buy happiness.

Or satisfaction.

But, in my mind, I am happy.

I AM blessed with a wonderful, beautiful life that HE created just for me.

But is that what it seems to others?

But I am thankful for HIM.

And leaning on this:

So Fresh and So Clean, Clean

Just a quick post today.

(Can you tell I am thoroughly enjoying my summers away from kiddos, blissfully sinking into boredom between TV shows?)

Last nite, Brenon and I were happily planting transplants we snagged at Brenon's grandmother's house. We we were just about finished when out of the corner of my eye, I spotted my lowly bench, haphazardly pushed on the far wall of the deck.

(Insert your Eeyore voice:)

I thought it looked a little sad and bland. Or a LOT. So like Barry Manilow to plastic surgery, I whipped out a lil' white paint and PRESTO CHANGE-O.

Instant facelift.

See those uneven paint blobs. Yeah, now I am, too. I might distress those off.

Or.

I might just go sit on my tail with some Wheat Thins and DVR episodes of The Bachlorette.

I'm gonna go with the second choice..
