Mats

Happy Weekend, friends.
Because of Parent-Teacher Conferences and President's Day, I'm the proud owner of a 4-day weekend. Yabba Dabba Doo!

Yesterday was spent being HIGHLY productive with the most mundane of tasks. Things you really dread doing, but have to eventually accomplish.  I mean, I no doubtedly set a  record. One of these tasks? Cleaning out my the car.. (insert scary music).

It wasn't SO bad. Lo and behold, I had a friend who needed to clean her car out, as well. And to build this excitement of car cleaning, she shared that she would be taking her car mats to the laundromat to wash them and did I need mine washed as well?

Yes, my friend washes her car mats in the industrial washers at the laundromat.
Genius.
Why hadn't I thought of that?

Off we trooped.
With soap, mats and quarters. Lots of quarters.

And what followed?
An impromptu photo shoot. And clean mats.

Chain Gang

I'm a total sucker when it comes it to chain mail/letters and spam.
 It's a total weakness.
I'm just saying, let's BOTH be glad that the Narobi-princes-who-will-double-our-money-if-we-deposit-some-in-a-Swiss-bank-account-thingy is a hoax.
So when I found this funny from my "e-friend" Alex, I couldn't resist.

The Rules:1. You must post the rules.
2. Post 11 fun facts about yourself on the blog post.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post. And then create 11 new questions for the people you tagged.
4. Tag 12 people and link them on your post.
5. Let them know you've tagged them.

11 Umm Kinda Fun Facts...

1) I can touch my tongue to my nose.
2) When I was a kid, I played church softball and played progressively worse with each passing year. I quit when I missed every pitch thrown to me.
3) I keep polish on my toes at all times. Even in the winter. And if it chips, I take it all off and start over. What's that you say? What color is it now? Essie's Power Clutch:
4) In the 10th grade, I went to Europe- well, specifically Switzerland, Italy, and the French Riviera. 11 eye opening days of food, culture, and language.  I think abut that trip at least once a week.
5) I might have shared it before, but I am really good at winning things on the radio. Really good. A few years ago, we won a trip to New York City to see a Broadway play. Why am I telling you this again? Because, the other day, I just miiiiiight have qualified to go to the Grammy's in a few weeks. Air high five.
6)  My blood sugar is kinda wonky. I have, HAVE to eat breakfast. Everyday. Usually within an hour of waking up. No exceptions. If not, I'll start shaking and just fall out on the floor. And usually with said breakfast, I have to have a couple of swigs of Dr. Oz's Green Monster Drink. Yum!
7) Yes, I was a sorority girl in college. At a notorious party school. But I hate that term. And the negative associations it brings.
8) A work friend and I started a silly game. We play "Who Could Be Our Friend". Basically, it's a celebrity that you think could literally be your friend in real life. And you start a club. Who have we decided upon this week?  Adele (because never mind her vocal chops, it's her British accent we're after), Kristen Stewart ( because she wears Chucks and we want her to be happy), Katy Perry ( she just seems so-gosh darn fun), Ben from the Bachelor ( need I detail this?), Rooney Mara ( so lovely, demure and a bat from hell, all in one ), and Zooey Deschanel (because of her bangs and eyeliner).
9) I didn't know what a jump drive was until 1.5 years ago.
10) I'm afraid of big dogs. Will I cry and wheeze and carry on. No. But if I see one, I get a bit geeked out.
11)  My brother shut my left pinkie in the door when I was in the 1st grade. The doctor told Mi Madre that I was lucky he was able to save it.

Alex's Questions For ME...
1. Mac or PC? PC, I don't think I know how to turn on a Mac.
2. What is a song you can't help but dance to? Whoa man, this is impossible. I LOVE to dance. Tonite was Zumba and we did the Wobble- and I let it loose.
3. Do you collect anything or have way to much of something? In trouble here. Lately, it's been shoes and cardigans.
4. How do you separate your laundry? This may seem like a boring question, but I always wonder if there are better ways to do it.  Brenon and I do separate laundry. I separate mine into lights, darks, towels/sheets, and handwashables.
5. What is the most adventurous thing you've ever done? Hmm, toughie. I think I am adventurous?? I've bungee jumped, gotten a tattoo, rappelled, and gotten my ear pierced at a gas station on a church trip. Does any of this count??
6. What would be your last meal on earth? Assuming calories don't matter, mushroom quesdillas, my mom's scalloped potatoes, Mrs. Cherry's cranberry salad, Gardetto Brown Garlic Circles, Diet Coke, a Reese's Peanut Butter Egg, and a few shortbread cookies from Panera. <Burp>
7. Where do you have no desire to travel to? Antarctica
8. How would you describe your decorating style? It once was Kirkland's-y (chuckle, chuckle), but now maybe shabby, light, and a bit more modern. With an art accent wall. Love those.
9. Naming something you are really good at. Go ahead, brag! I'm good at snow skiing.
10. Did you have a pet growing up? Yes. We had a slew of intermittent dogs, and then we had a cat named Phoebe, after the character on Friends. We thought it was a girl when we got him, but surprise! It was a Phil. Nevertheless, we didn't change the name, thus giving our spawn of Satan cat a complex.
11. What is your dream career? Oh boy, this is a great question. I LOVE speech. I LOVE therapy. But if I had to say, it would be a speech pathologist who moonlighted as a writer/buyer for Nordstrom's or some uber chic magazine, and having her Master's as a chef (can you have that??), with my own TV show. Did you get all of that? :)
My Questions for You....
1) Are you allergic to anything?
2) If a genie granted you one "do-over" for anything, would you take it? And if so, what?
3) What's the meaning of life?
4) Do you have a favorite drink?
5) Toilet paper: do you let it hang over or under?
6) What pair of shoes did you wear today?
7) I give you a dollar for the food kind of vending machine. What do you buy?
8) When was the last time you were embarrassed?
9) Taylor Swift has a song called Fifteen. It's about, as you might have guessed, what you would go back and tell yourself. What would YOU say to your fifteen year old self?
10) The majority of your grocery bill, on a pretty regular basis is _______________.
11) Have you ever run out of gas? When was the last time and where?

You've Got to Hind Your Love Away....

Sometimes it is perfectly acceptable to hide. Put a blanket on your head, and hide.

I've come home with a case of the aches.
Either I REALLY "worked it out" at step aerobics ( gurrrrl, I can work some "step-touch now) or the flu is whispering my name.

I wish I was crafting. I wish I was DIY'ing.

Tonight it's me and the blanket.
And a Robitussin induced coma.
Sniff, sniff.

Everything Is Coming Up Roses..

Isn't that how the saying goes?

I've noticed a trend.
Roses.

Perhaps it's a trend. Or perhaps it's just my eye leaning towards "all things floral" since I've been RELIGIOUSLY watering our plants.

Here are a few things that make my heart go "pitter-patter"..
DIY Fabric Rosettes- Love the casualness.

Studded Rose Earrings

Long Floral Maxi Dress..but not a savvy price..

Mmm, one of my absolute necessities- I've used it for years. This is Rosebud Salve. It's a great lil' product for everything- chapped lips, burns, dry skin patches, bug bites. Grab one up at Sephora (or maybe Ulta?) for ~ $5, and it will last you forever!

A purely self indulgent item.
Something a bit cute-sy to spice up my message board at school.
Can you rationalize $15 push pins?
Good, me neither.

Mule Day 2011

  What a fun weekend!
A while back, my best friend, Casey, mentioned a local festival would be coming soon to her town and invited me to come up to the Nashville area for the weekend. She explained "Mule Day" is a weekend event, celebrating all things mules and rural life. It would be complete with parades, prisoners, " mountain men" and mules.

Of course- I jumped at the chance. Sometimes you just gotta get away.
Even for a "Mule Day".

Here are a few highlights from the weekend. A special high five for Casey's most excellent photography skills- I am borrowing some of her pics!

I was looking for a local craft or souvenir to nab. This is NOT what I had in mind. What is this??:

A special thanks goes to the kind police officer sitting in front of us at the mule pull. Casey got stung by a bee, and he gave her a pinch of his dip to put on the sting.
Only in Columbia..

On Sunday, we got a chance to visit with Casey's family's friends, the Premos. They have quite a collection of uhh.. pets. Here is sweet Butch.

Wayne and Suede- the Alpacas

Here is the Premo's "fainting goat", Cotton. If you startle him, his back legs give out and he falls over. Pants-wetting entertainment!

My Lovebug...

Ok ok- I know I have been sketch for a few days.
So sorry.

With all my vast free time this week, it is beginning to dawn on me I'm getting older and now in a weird, grownup place.

What I am trying to say is that with ALL of my super-stealth, Face-stalking Facebooking skills, I now see that a huge portion of people I grew up with, are married and working on their 2.5 allotted children.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE sweet babes and little ones. I love peeking at sweet family portraits. Really, I do. However, it's sometimes odd to see your carpool buddy, 10th grade English project group member, or prom date with a mini-me.
I mean, really?? THAT guy now has a kid??

I digress.

So, until that time comes, (Lord willing) I thought I would proudly show off MY lovebug, too!

Isn't he wonderful!
What you are looking at is my 20+year old sourdough bread starter. A dear, dear friend from college, Katie, so sweetly gave me a portion of her mom's starter shortly after Brenon and I got married. I have been feeding it, watering it, and changing it ever since!

HaHa- he is growing up to be soo big!

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner..

Woot woot!
I won received an award!

The award comes with a few rules.  No worries, nothing too crazy.

1. You must link back to the person who gave you the award to let them know you accept.
A special thanks to a sweet childhood friend! Check out their sweet blog:
She has such wonderful home ideas. Like a-ma-zing.
2. You must share 7 things about yourself; and

3. Pass the award on to 10 recently discovered bloggers and let them know about the award.
Now without further ado, here are seven awesome things you may or may not have known about me.

1. I almost lost the tip of my pinkie in the 1st grade.
2. I have two brothers named Drew (one is a brother in-law, if you wanna get technical).
3. I've never had a PBJ sandwich before.
4. I played the viola ( a little bit bigger violin) for 6 years. Even dorkier, sometimes Brenon and I debate  "Which is Better: band or orchestra".
5. I took Scuba Diving in college and did so horribly they had to assign a teacher with me at all times. I barely passed.
6. I LOVE to cook - bells and whistles included, however I have a co-dependent relationship with fast food, that might need an intervention.
7. Dorky fact: You know when you go to look a word up in a dictionary and see that funny, squiggly, phonetic pronunciation next to YOUR word? I'm fluent and can transcribe anything you say into those symbols. No really, true story.

Here are a few of my latest favorite reads:

Thanks to all of you- I love catching up with all of your ideas and thoughts!

Giving it Up..

Howdy-doo, howdy-doo! Hope you are well. I'm home today with some virus junk. Blah.

When not in my cold-medicine induced cat naps, I have been thinking of today- Ash Wednesday. While I was not raised Catholic, my college friends and I participated by "giving up" something for fun. It was always something silly or goofy. I thought I would I share this year's.. and I have even whipped up a nifty diagram for YOU(ok- I found the time between Divorce Court and Dr. Phil).
I give you MY latest version of the food pyramid.  So obviously, I've developed this little taste-a-roo for processed stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if my gall bladder is in overdrive! So, until Easter I am going to TRY to cut out some of this junk and actually eat a little better. TRY is the key word.
If you see me, check on me. I'm gonna be the one with hand tremors because I haven't had a Dew and a cheese stick!

Snip Snip

Spring is coming, and I've been needing a new change-a-roo.

So I took the plunge- snip, snip- and have been channeling my inner Daphne, from Scooby Doo.

Not sure how I feel about it. Since I normally look not a day older than 10th grade younger,   perhaps this pushes me back to middle schools days?

I dunno, we'll see. At least it's fun for now.
